Founded as St Cuthberts in 1895, Worksop College was the last of the Woodard schools to be opened. Since then, the school has undergone dramatic growth, with expansion in the 1930s under the Headship of Canon Shirley whose professed aim was to turn the College into “the Eton of the North”.
With a full, broadly selective complement of students, Worksop College achieves continued success in both GCSE and A-Level results, well above the national figures.
Our two Hockey teams remain strong with the Girls’ First XI winning county indoor and outdoor championships and the boys First Team XI not only emulating this achievement but also making it to the finals of the National Championships. With four international players in Hockey, several in Rugby and Cricket, the school’s sport is as strong as ever.
Music, Art and Drama have provided fertile grounds for some outstanding productions and art work; two pupils achieving top-five marks in the A-Level Art examinations this year. Sixth form pupils can now take a BTEC International Cuisine course.
With the school in good heart a major programme of refurbishment has continued with the development of a new First XV Rugby pitch, an extensive increase in our ICT capacity, including a second computer suite and further interactive whiteboards throughout the departments as well as a new Physics’ laboratory. To cater for our strong female boarding contingent, a two million pound purpose built girls’ boarding house has just opened.
