The King’s School, Tynemouth is a day school situated in the attractive coastal village of Tynemouth, a short train journey from Newcastle city centre. With 620 pupils from 4-18, it provides healthy and holistic education, grounded in the Woodard ethos.
The school offers a huge range of subjects to GCSE (96% + A* - C, 50% A*/A grades) and A-level (100% A – E, 67% A* - B grades). All pupils are prepared for entrance to University including Oxford and Cambridge. A very wide ranging extra curricular programme, including sports (numerous regional and international representatives), drama and music flourishes.
The school also specialises in Outdoor Pursuits, having its own residential centre in the Cheviot Hills. A major development programme, completed in 2008 has provided a new Drama Workshop, Dance Studio, Sports Hall, Music School, Dining Facilities and Sixth Form Study Centre as well as new Libraries and teaching accommodation for English and Modern Foreign Languages.
It is proposed that from September 2013, King’s will merge with an outstanding primary school on its doorstep to become Kings Priory School, an independent all-through academy, funded by central government. This unique project aims to harness the best of independent and maintained sector education and to enhance significantly the opportunity on offer to the local community and beyond.
