New Dance Studios at Abbots Bromley School For Girls

The brand new Lord Harmar-Nicholls Dance studios at Abbots Bromley School for Girls in Staffordshire were recently opened in style. After a champagne reception and official opening, dancers on the schools Vocational Dance Course performed a selection of modern and classical ballet pieces ending with the waltz from The Sleeping Beauty.

The new 230 square metre studios benefit from a range of excellent features including a ‘Harlequin’ sprung floor (as used by the Royal Ballet in the new studios at The Royal Opera House, Covent Garden), barres and mirrors by Whitebox3, high-tech variable speed sound systems and a new Clavinova Electric Piano.

The studio was opened by a former pupil of the school, The Hon Judith Nicholls, whose generous donation made these wonderful studios possible. Judith commented that she was absolutely delighted with the success of the build and the end result had surpassed her expectations. She said that she was even more thrilled to see the girls perform at the opening and to see the studios in use.

Director of Dance, Russell Alkins said: “The new state of the art Dance Studios will allow us to continue to develop the vocational dance courses at Abbots Bromley School for Girls. The courses we offer allow our students to take their dance and musical theatre studies to professional level whilst maintaining the highest academic standards. The students and staff are all extremely grateful to Judith for her generosity”.
