Ellesmere College Doubles in Size following Land Purchase

As Ellesmere College enters its 125th year, to accommodate the curriculum needs of record number of pupils, a major purchase of land alongside existing playing fields has been made by the School to give greater space for building developments over the next few years.

With record numbers of pupils, Ellesmere College has purchased 74 acres as part of a consortium bid for an adjacent farm and land that recently was auctioned upon the death of its previous owner.

Brendan Wignall, Headmaster commented, ‘When I learnt that the land was to be auctioned, I decided that this was an unmissable opportunity for the School to gain additional land for future development. Over the next few years, the plan is to increase the number of sports playing areas and move the School’s 9-hole golf course to the newly acquired land. The idea is then to build additional classroom and boarding facilities on the current site. I’m delighted that we’ve been successful in our attempt to buy the land which more than doubles the College site from 70 to 144 acres’
