Three students at Denstone College, Jordan Davies, Luke Cheadle and Chris Beech, have received good news in their chosen sports of rugby and cricket.
Jordan Davies, aged 17, who is in the 6th form and comes from Manchester, was selected for the England Under 18 Rugby squad to play against Scotland on Sunday 2 March, and he is also going to participate in the squad’s tour of Italy during the Easter holidays. Jordan is a talented and strong running player who usually represents the Denstone 1st XV at fly half but who can also line up at centre or fullback.
Nick Hill, Director of Rugby at Denstone, is pleased for Jordan “ Jordan is clearly an impact player who can change the course of a game. I am glad that the selectors have spotted his undoubted skill and ability. He has great potential.”
Luke Cheadle, aged 18, also in the 6th form who lives near Stone, is a first class batsman, who made his debut for the Denstone College 1st XI in 2005, aged just 15. Last June, he captained the 1st XI against the MCC and put on something of a batting master class, during which he scored 102 not out. Chris Beech, aged 15, who is in the 5th form, and who lives in Draycott, also plays cricket. He is currently in the Staffordshire Under 17 squad and made his debut for the Denstone 1st XI last season in the MCC fixture. He also scored 102 not out.
In recognition of their outstanding achievement, both Luke and Chris have been invited to lunch in the pavilion at Lord’s on 10 April for the MCC’s opening game of the season, where they will be presented with a commemorative plaque.
Jane Morris, Director of Cricket, sung the praises of the two young cricketers “Both Luke and Chris are well rounded cricketers, but they are particularly talented batsmen, as evidenced by their centuries against a very strong MCC side.”
