Ellesmere College Music Scholars Perform in Peter Messenger Memorial Concert.

This Friday Ellesmere College Music Scholars will perform a variety of instrumental and vocal pieces at the 2008 Peter Messenger Memorial Concert. The Concert will follow the opening of the Ellesmere College Community Art Exhibition at which guests will be able to enjoy a wine-tasting organised by Momentum Wines of Oswestry.

The pupils and staff at Ellesmere College will be welcoming members of the local community to the School’s Arts Centre for the evening of entertainment. Six local artists will be exhibiting their work which will include watercolour paintings, metalwork, wood carvings and photography.

The concert will be featuring the College’s music scholars playing much loved classic and show tunes. Two talented Year 8 string players, Luke Taylor and John Paul, have chosen to play two lively modern pieces by Telemann and Squire. Sixth Formers, Rachel Harrison will be playing Gildhaud’s First Concertino and Alice Tow will perform Für Elise by Beethoven. Year 7 pupil, Katie Nicholson, will be singing ‘Just 16 Goin’ on 17’ by Roger and Hammerstein.

Roger Paul, Director of Music at Ellesmere College, commented ‘Former pupil, Peter Messenger, who sadly died in his early twenties, was a very talented musician. His family set up the Memorial Fund to financially assist Ellesmere College music scholars with their music studies at Summer Schools. The pupils who are performing are all talented musicians and we are also delighted to be welcoming a group of local artists to join us for the evening.’

The Community Art Exhibition opening is at 7.30pm and the Concert will start at 8pm. Tickets for the evening cost £5 each and can be purchase at the door. For further details about the Concert and to make enquiries about Ellesmere College Music Scholarships, call the School on 01691 622321.
