A talented young musician who is spending his GAP Year at Ellesmere College has recently been awarded a scholarship to further his music studies at the Birmingham Conservatoire.
Edward Wadon started to play instruments at the age of eleven and for the last three years, whilst still at school, has enjoyed a place with the National Welsh Youth Orchestra, playing the cello and touring Wales with them.
He started at Ellesmere College in September 2007. As an accomplished cellist, trombone and double bass player, his support to the Music Department has been considerable. Playing the trombone, he had the opportunity to play in the Big Band at the Woodard Schools’ Concert held at Symphony Hall, Birmingham last November and more recently has begun to rehearse with the School Choir to help prepare them for two forthcoming concerts to be held at the School later this term.
Besides supporting the Music Department administratively, Edward is helping with pupils’ music lessons and is looking forward to accompanying a group of pupils to Barcelona for the 2008 Ellesmere College Music Tour next term.
At the Birmingham Conservatoire, Edward will be studying all aspects of musical performance including teaching. He commented, ‘Ellesmere College has many talented musical pupils and it is a delight to be part of the team that inspires them to further their talent. It is my personal ambition to pursue a career as an orchestral performer and there have already been many opportunities for me perform around the School in assemblies and Chapel services.’
