The Sir Robert Woodard Academy

Named in honour of the great-grandson of Woodard founder Nathaniel Woodard, the Sir Robert Woodard Academy offers high-quality education tailored to individual students’ needs. Opened in September 2009, it is one of the UK’s new academies, publicly-funded state schools governed by an independent board and catering for students of all abilities, faiths and backgrounds.

The child-focused ethos at the Sir Robert Woodard ensures students are valued and recognised in their own right. Excellent pastoral care encourages them to develop their own interests and strengths in a safe and caring environment, bringing confidence, motivation and self-respect.

Innovative teaching methods and the latest in ICT enhance the personalised curriculum, which is wide-ranging and provides for academic success as well as personal growth. The twin specialisms of Performing Arts and Mathematics give students further opportunities to expand their skills.

Small, friendly learning communities called Chapters help students to be known, valued and supported to achieve their personal best. These run from the first Chapter in Year 7, aiding the transition from primary to secondary education, through the four vertical Chapters of years 8 to 11, to a college-style post-16 Chapter preparing students for work or higher education.

As a Christian academy, students from all faiths, and none are given the freedom to explore their own personal, social, moral and spiritual values within an educational culture that values effort, achievement and service. Positive home-school partnerships are encouraged while parents and carers can follow their child’s progress via the academy’s virtual learning environment, Frog.
